Welcome to Sprowt.ca

Funny, how when you ask a bunch of Niagara Region students what they’re looking for in a financial institution – the answer is pretty clear – ‘simple’ and ‘free’, that’s it. Oh, and if there are some added bonuses, like cool stuff and discounts for places and things in Niagara, then that’s pure awesomeness.

When we were developing our Sprowt Student Banking Package, we decided to concentrate on the ‘simple’ and ‘free’ part. We did our homework and we’re giving you what you asked for! Sprowt is NO FEE Student Banking at its best! Sprowt is designed with Niagara students in mind – whether you’re a 12 year old at elementary school in Niagara Falls, a Grimsby Secondary School graduate, or attending Brock or Niagara College, Sprowt bundles all of these great products and services for FREE!

  • Free chequing account with no service fees
  • Unlimited debit and ATM transactions*
  • Free online banking and bill payment
  • Daily interest paid monthly
  • Discounted student loans
  • No fee Student MasterCard*
  • Annual Scholarship
  • Free email and mobile money transfers
  • Free mobile banking
  • Free on-line banking and telephone banking

Basically, everything is free for all Sprowt members up to 18 years of age and full-time post secondary students, no matter how old you are. All you need to do to take advantage of these great deals (which, by the way, you won’t find at any other bank or credit union in Niagara) is simply complete the application form and we’ll contact you to get you set up, or you can visit any one of PenFinancial Credit Union branches to open a Sprowt NO FEE Student Banking Account!

Oh, and we know banking can be really boring. Who wants to hear more about how to apply for a loan and avoiding debit card scams – so, our Sprowt Spoketers (Niagara students - just like you!) have developed this Sprowt.ca website, where you’ll find quick, easy tips that you really want and need to know to make the most of your money and make the most of your experiences as a student here in Niagara. You’ll find our Sprowt Spokesters out in their little Smart car, scouting out the hottest new watering holes, blogging about the best places to find bargains in Niagara, eating cheap and finding that perfect apartment – all the things that matter to you!!

* Debit transactions include in branch, telephone and online bill payments, cheques, point of sale (Interac) purchases and pre-authorized payments. ATM transactions include PenFinancial ATMs along with 2,400 ATMs across Canada through THE DING FREE NETWORK. Other financial institutions may apply a surcharge; inquire with them for details.

Are you planning to attend or return to post-secondary school this fall? Wondering how you'll manage to pay for tuition and books? We can help!

Sprowt.ca is pleased to bring back our Video Scholarship Contest once again, giving students in Niagara an opportunity to win some cash. The winner will receive $2,000 with four runner up prizes up for grabs as well!

Here’s how it works!

1) All you have to do is submit a video (under two minutes in length) outlining why you're passionate about your chosen program of study. In other words, what do you want to be when you grow up and why? Check out last year’s winning video from David Nguyen.

NOTE: It doesn’t have to be a professional grade video! Video’s are graded based on passion and creativity! Check out the grading sheet here.

2) Download the complete application, including all rules and regulations here.
3) The videos will be reviewed by our panel of community judges who will narrow all of the video submissions down to our top 5.
4) Once the top five is established, the video will be put to a public vote (May 13th-May 27th)
5) Top 5 prizes awarded base on total votes.

  • 1st= $2,000
  • 2nd= $800
  • 3rd= $600
  • 4th= $400
  • 5th= $200

You can check out all 24 of our video submissions from 2012 here, to get an idea of what we’re looking for.
